Benjamin Hunter has a record of capacity building in Indianapolis, working with non-profits, higher education, and residential neighborhoods.
Ben moved to Indianapolis in 1994 to attend IUPUI, graduating with a Bachelors degree in Political Science. He has worked for the Indianapolis Police Department since 1998, serving with the Indiana University Police Department prior to that.
While at IUPUI, he began a student movement embracing community service along with eleven fellow students. While still in school he served as co-chair to the Advisory Board of the Indiana Campus Compact along with then current president Dick Wood of Earlham College. ICC is an organization dedicated to the movement of community service and volunteerism. Ben was also the recipient of the "Spirit of Philanthropy" award.
"Ben is an outstanding community leader, responsive, dedicated, and no one works harder to find an answer for you. His ability to be accessible is un-matched; he will
be an excellent councilman."
Judy Goldstein, President Forest Hills
As an Indianapolis Police Officer, he began his career working in the streets of Butler-Tarkington, on the north side of Indianapolis. He quickly made a positive impact using community-policing to solve many problems as a patrol officer.
Ben moved inside as the Community Liaison for the IPD North District in 2001. He has assisted over twenty-seven neighborhoods with problems ranging from crime to other quality of life issues on a daily basis. He has received several department and community honors. Ben was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in September 2005.
"Ben's commitment to our community is often the glue that holds us together. You can see that he really cares and works within city government to get problems solved for us.
He is a proven leader."
Callie Sanders, Crime Watch Block Captain and President - BTNA Association
A member of the Board of Directors for the Peace Learning Center, he has continued his commitment to give back to youth who are plagued by violence in the inner city. He currently serves as Chair on the Board. PLC is a not-for-profit/non-political organization that teaches conflict resolution to IPS and Warren Township 4th and 5th graders. In addition to his time spent working with PLC, he serves on the Advisory Board to the Indiana Partnership to Prevent Violent Injury and Death and the Advisory Board to the Butler University Center on Citizenship and Community. His expertise as a police officer assists both organizations throughout Marion County and the State of Indiana.
Hunter owns M&H PCI a consulting partnership established in 2001 with fellow Indianapolis Police Officer Brent Miller. Together they consult and provide supplemental police services to Butler University. Their successful endeavor has taught Ben the importance of small businesses, and their contribution in Marion County.
"Officer Hunter has always been there for our neighborhood, when no one else would help us, we would call Ben, and to our rescue he would come, he's wonderful."
Waldine Anderson, MKNA Resident
Ben has a deep love for Indiana and the City of Indianapolis. He believes that now is the right time to elect bright, strong, and dedicated residents to the City/County Council. His passion for strong communities and residential involvement is the driving point to his campaign. He was reared in Richmond, Indiana by two wonderful parents, who owned two separate small businesses. Ben witnessed his parents working in the community and gets his strong work ethic through his father and mother as well as his fiscal conservative views on government.
Ben and his wife Keri, a lifelong Warren Township resident, live in Grassy Creek with their daughter Emily and two dogs. They attend East 91st Street Christian Church. His passion for community and capacity building has led him to explore a run for City/County Council District 21 in 2007.
